Tessy Joggers: Why They're the Best-Selling Pair in Our Fashion Department

Walk through our Fashion department on a Saturday and you'll see the Tessy rail get picked over faster than almost anything else in the store. We've stocked a lot of joggers over the years. This one's stuck.
There's no single reason for that it's a few small things adding up. Here's what's actually in them, how to wear them, and why we think they've earned the shelf space.

What's Actually in Them

Tessy Joggers are cut from a 77% cotton, 22% recycled polyester, 1% elastane blend. That 1% elastane does more work than the number suggests it's the difference between a jogger that goes baggy at the knee by lunchtime and one that still holds its shape when you're taking the bins out at 9pm.
The fit is regular rise, regular through the hip, tapering in at the ankle. Not skinny, not slouchy somewhere in between, which is why they don't read as "just loungewear" the second you put a proper top on. We've had customers come in looking for something to wear to the school run that could also do a coffee afterwards without a change of clothes. This is usually what we point them toward.
They come in six colours right now: Dark Blue, Cobalt, White, Pebble, and Oatmeal so there's a genuine neutral if that's what you're after, and a proper pop of colour in Cobalt if it's not.

Styling Them Beyond the House

  • Everyday: oversized jumper, trainers, done. This is 80% of how they get worn and there's nothing wrong with that.
  • Dressed up a notch: swap the trainers for loafers or ankle boots, throw on a blazer. The tapered leg is doing the heavy lifting here it's what stops the whole outfit sliding back into "pyjamas" territory.
  • Layered for the weather we actually get: an oversized cardigan over the top, ankle boots, done built for the kind of grey, in-between day Monaghan specialises in.
  • Gym-to-street: fitted top, trainers. Not designed as activewear, but they hold up fine for it.

Why We Keep Reordering Them

Plenty of joggers are comfortable. Fewer hold their shape after a full day and a few washes. That's really the whole pitch they don't fall apart the way cheaper cotton joggers do, and they don't look like sweatpants pretending to be fashion.
Wash at 30 degrees with similar colours, skip the tumble dryer if you can, and they'll outlast most things in that price bracket.

Finding Your Fit

Tessy Joggers are cut with a regular rise and regular fit through the hip, tapering into a slimmer leg toward the ankle so they sit comfortably at the waist without the very high-rise, snug style some jogger brands go for. If you prefer a looser, more relaxed leg, you may want to size up slightly; if you like a closer, more streamlined look through the leg, true to size is the way to go.
The inseam runs to 79cm at full length, or 73cm rolled up at the hem useful to know if you're petite or tend to roll your trousers anyway, since the folded hem is a deliberate part of the design rather than something to hem yourself.
If you're between sizes or unsure, popping into the Monaghan store to try a pair on is genuinely the easiest way to check our team can help you compare the fit across colours, since dye batches can occasionally run very slightly differently even within the same style.

Tessy Joggers: Common Questions

  1. What are Tessy Joggers made from? A blend of 77% cotton, 22% recycled polyester, and 1% elastane a mix chosen for stretch and shape retention rather than pure softness alone.
  2. Are they true joggers, or more like trousers? Somewhere in between, deliberately. They have the comfort and stretch of a jogger but a tapered, structured leg that reads more like a smart-casual trouser once you dress them up.
  3. How should I wash them? Wash at 30 degrees with similar colours, and avoid high heat when drying to protect the elastane content and keep the fit from loosening over time.
  4. Can I wear them to work? Depends on your workplace, but paired with a blazer and loafers or ankle boots, they hold up well in smart-casual settings. For anything requiring formal trousers, they're better suited to Fridays than client meetings.
  5. Do they come in petite or tall lengths? Currently they're available in one length, with a folded hem finishing at 73cm rolled worth trying in-store if length is a concern for your height.
