Booster Seats

Once your child no longer needs the extra head and side protection of a high back booster, a backless booster seat gives them just enough of a boost for the adult seatbelt to sit correctly across their shoulder and hip. Lighter and more compact than a high back booster, they're easy to move between cars or keep in the boot for lifts with friends and family.

Our range includes booster seats with ISOFIX, connecting directly to your car's anchor points for a more secure, fixed fit than a belt-only booster ideal if the seat is staying in one car for the long term. Suitable roughly from age 7 through to 12, or until your child reaches 150cm, whichever comes first.

Not sure whether your child is ready to move from a high back booster to this stage? See our FAQ below.

FAQs

What age is a backless booster seat suitable for?

Most children move to a backless booster seat somewhere between 7 and 12 years old, once they've outgrown the extra head and side support of a high back booster and are tall and mature enough to sit still with the seatbelt correctly positioned. There's no fixed legal age in Ireland the requirement is based on height and weight, so a child needs an appropriate restraint until they reach 150cm or 36kg. If your child still isn't tall enough for the seatbelt to sit properly across their shoulder without a high back for support, they may not be ready for a backless booster yet.

Is an ISOFIX booster seat better than a belt-fitted one?

A booster seat with ISOFIX connects directly to your car's ISOFIX anchor points, holding the booster securely in place even when your child isn't sitting in it useful if the seat tends to slide around between journeys. A belt-fitted backless booster instead relies on your car's own seatbelt to hold both the booster and your child in place, which makes it lighter and quicker to move between cars. Both are safe when used correctly, since it's ultimately the adult seatbelt restraining your child either way ISOFIX simply adds extra stability to the booster itself.

Can my child sit without a booster seat once they turn 12?

In Ireland, the legal requirement is based on height and weight rather than a fixed age a child needs an appropriate car seat or booster until they reach 150cm in height or 36kg in weight, whichever comes first. Many children reach this milestone around age 12, but some may need a booster for longer, and others may be ready sooner. Always check your child against the specific measurement rather than assuming their birthday is the cut-off.
