High Back Boosters

As your child grows out of a harnessed car seat, a high back booster seat gives them the next level of protection raising them to the right height for the adult seatbelt to sit correctly across their shoulder and hip, while the high back and side wings still shield their head and body in a collision.

Suitable roughly from age 4 through to 12, our range includes both ISOFIX-connected boosters for a more secure, fixed fit, and belt-positioning options that are easy to move between cars. Many feature adjustable headrests, so the same seat grows with your child for years rather than needing to be replaced as they get taller.

Not sure if your child is ready for this stage yet? Check our FAQ below for guidance on the right age and size to make the switch.

FAQs

What age is right for a high back booster seat?

There's no single legal age for switching to a high back booster Irish law is based on your child's height and weight (under 150cm or 36kg needs an appropriate restraint), not a fixed birthday. In practice, most children move to a high back booster somewhere between 4 and 6 years old, once they've outgrown their harnessed forward-facing seat's height or weight limit. Always check the specific limits printed on your current seat rather than going by age alone, and keep your child in a harnessed seat for as long as it still fits a high back booster works best once they're tall and mature enough to sit still and keep the seatbelt correctly positioned.

What's the difference between ISOFIX and belt-fitted high back boosters?

An ISOFIX high back booster connects directly to your car's ISOFIX anchor points, giving a fixed, secure connection that's straightforward to install correctly every time. A belt-fitted booster instead uses your car's own seatbelt to hold the booster in place, which makes it quicker to move between cars but relies on getting the installation right each time. Both types are safe when properly fitted the seatbelt itself still restrains your child in either case, so the difference is mainly about installation convenience and stability rather than crash protection.

How long will a high back booster seat last?

Most high back boosters are designed to last from around age 4 through to 12, or until your child reaches 150cm in height many feature an adjustable headrest and widening base that grow with your child, so you shouldn't need to buy again during this stage. Once they reach the height or weight limit on the seat, or turn 12 (whichever comes first), they can legally travel without a car seat, provided the adult seatbelt fits them correctly.
